Days Fifty-six and -seven: Thursday 23 and Friday 24 August 1990
Virginian Motel, Casper, WY
Expecting a general delivery package at the US Post Office, I have to wait in Casper until it arrives. I rode my bicycle around Casper waiting for the package. I found a K-mart or similar and bought a long sleeved cotton pull-over shirt. At this elevation, without humidity, I find riding to be a chilly affair in the morning. I also notice my nasal passages drying out, breathing causes some discomfort because of this dryness.
Since I haven’t mentioned it yet, Wyoming is celebrating the centennial of its admission to the United States. I still have the exceptionally nice official highway map issued to commemorate this milestone. I also benefited from a major upgrade to the roadside rest areas. Wyoming had upgraded its rest areas in the previous year; they were the nicest rest areas that I’ve ever used.
I believe that I acquired the official highway map (pictured below) from the first rest area that I visited.
