Thus Always To Tyrants

I stand in silent meditation ‘neath the banner of my nation, And conceitedly Virtue mocks me. “Sic Semper Tyrannis,” her motto, A foot upon her defeated foe, She poses not vigilantly But confidently victorious. And herein lies her failure to us Her posture lulling suspicion. For to serve us against tyranny In the vanguard of democracy She must remind us to stand watch.
